Chelsea Signs Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa
Chelsea has officially announced the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old forward has agreed to a contract at Stamford Bridge that extends until 2033, and he is set to join Xabi Alonso‘s squad for the upcoming 2026/27 season. The player’s representatives were informed by Chelsea earlier in the summer that the club would not make a move for Rogers while England was still competing in the World Cup, to avoid causing any distraction.
Villa had anticipated Rogers’ departure and had already secured his direct replacement, signing Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for a club-record fee. The funds generated from Rogers’ sale are expected to be used by Villa to acquire a fast winger, with West Ham United‘s Crysencio Summerville and Paris Saint-Germain‘s Ibrahim Mbaye reportedly among their primary targets.
Aston Villa co-owner and chairman Nassef Sawiris reportedly had the final say on Rogers’ transfer. Villa’s internal assessment acknowledged that selling key assets was necessary to sustain progress and adhere to financial regulations. The club had initially set benchmarks for the transfer fee based on other significant acquisitions in 2025, such as Liverpool‘s signings of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, and Manchester City‘s acquisition of Elliot Anderson earlier this month.
