Ferran Torres agrees to join PSG, Barcelona considers striker options

Luis Enrique reunion? Ferran Torres open to PSG transfer as advanced talks with Barcelona already underway

Ferran Torres, the Spain international and Barcelona player, has reportedly agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain. This development comes as Barcelona has been active in the summer transfer window, securing deals and pursuing new signings, which has led to a saturated forward line at the club.

The agreement between Torres and PSG is understood to be in principle, with the player reportedly keen on the move. This potential transfer follows Barcelona’s recent acquisition of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, a move that is believed to have impacted Torres’s future at the Catalan club. With Adeyemi’s arrival, Barcelona’s forward options have expanded, potentially altering the pecking order for Torres, who is currently under contract until June of 2027.

Torres’s move to Paris Saint-Germain

The decision by Ferran Torres to pursue a transfer to PSG is seen by some as a strategic move to take control of his career trajectory. Traditionally, at this point in the year, he might have been engaged in discussions for a contract extension with Barcelona. However, with no immediate plans for an extension from either side, a free transfer in 2027 was a possibility. By agreeing to join PSG, Torres appears to be making a proactive career decision.

A significant factor in Torres’s potential move to PSG is the presence of Luis Enrique, the current manager of the French club. Enrique, who previously managed the Spain national team, has consistently shown belief in Torres’s abilities. During his time with the national squad, Enrique reportedly relied on Torres’s work rate, pressure, and tactical movement. PSG is looking to revamp its forward line to fit a more collaborative and dynamic system, and Enrique has reportedly personally pushed for Torres’s signing this summer.

The transfer, while agreed in principle, is not expected to be officially completed until after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Torres has reportedly made it clear that his immediate focus is on the international tournament, where Spain recently secured a victory against Belgium and is set to face France in a semi-final match. He intends to concentrate on his national team duties in the United States before finalising his club career move.

Barcelona’s striker options

Should Ferran Torres depart, Barcelona is reportedly considering options for another striker to potentially play alongside Julian Alvarez, for whom the club is negotiating. The club has already completed a deal for Anthony Gordon and made the signing of Hamza Abdelkarim permanent. They are also reportedly close to signing Karim Adeyemi.

Among the potential targets for Barcelona are Dusan Vlahovic and Fisnik Asllani. Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus has ended, has been offered to Barcelona. While initial demands regarding salary, signing bonus, and commission were considered high, these figures are said to have been reduced. Asllani, a forward from Hoffenheim, presents a younger option. He reportedly has a release clause of €29 million and has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, but he is believed to be waiting to see if Barcelona makes a move. Barcelona has reportedly engaged in discussions with Asllani and his representatives, with coach Hansi Flick expected to have the final say on any potential advancement.

The club is also considering internal options to address the potential void left by Torres’s departure. Hamza Abdelkarim is expected to train with the first team while continuing to play for the reserve side, and he could be considered as a backup striker. Alternatively, Anthony Gordon or Dani Olmo could be deployed in a central role if the situation requires it. The need for an additional striker would be less urgent if Ferran Torres were to remain with the club.
