Arsenal exploring deal for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior
Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential transfer for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. The Brazil international, who is 26 years old, has entered the final year of his contract with the Spanish club, leading to speculation about his future.
The interest from Arsenal is understood to be in its early stages, with no direct club-to-club contact having taken place yet. However, the idea of bringing Vinicius Junior to the Emirates Stadium has received approval at various levels within Arsenal. The Premier League champions are aiming to strengthen their attacking options, particularly on the left wing.
Contract Situation and Real Madrid’s Stance
Vinicius Junior‘s contract situation at Real Madrid is a key factor in Arsenal‘s reported interest. He has one year remaining on his current deal, and negotiations for a renewal have not yet resulted in a breakthrough. Real Madrid may consider selling the player rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer, especially as he would be due a significant loyalty bonus if he were to stay for another season.
The return of José Mourinho as manager at Real Madrid has also contributed to the uncertainty surrounding Vinicius Junior‘s future. Mourinho has signed a three-year deal at the Bernabéu. Despite a past incident where Mourinho made comments after Vinicius Junior accused Benfica‘s Gianluca Prestianni of racial abuse during a Champions League tie, it is understood that the player and head coach have been in contact and were prepared to start the new campaign together.
During the 2025-26 season, Vinicius Junior scored 22 goals across all competitions for Real Madrid. The club finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona. He also played in all five of Brazil‘s games at the recent World Cup, scoring four goals before Carlo Ancelotti‘s side was eliminated by Norway in the round of 16.
Arsenal’s Transfer Activity and Other Targets
Arsenal has been active in the transfer market, having already made several additions to their squad. They signed Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m this week. Tzolis joined Piero Hincapié, whose temporary deal was made permanent, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who was out of contract at Leeds, as new arrivals.
The club had also identified Morgan Rogers as a target, but Arsenal was reportedly unwilling to pay more than £80m for the England international. Rogers subsequently joined Chelsea in a £117m deal, which is reported as a British record fee.
In addition to Vinicius Junior, Arsenal has other forwards on their radar, including Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain. The club also sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for £17m earlier this summer. Their alternative option on the left wing, Gabriel Martinelli, scored only one Premier League goal last season.
There is also interest in Bruno Guimarães, with Arsenal keen on signing the Brazil international from Newcastle. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe commented on Guimarães‘s future after a 1-1 pre-season draw at Gateshead, stating that he did not want to lose his best players and that he had spoken with Guimarães multiple times.
Vinicius Junior, who was the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up, is currently on holiday following his participation in the World Cup.
